Matthias practices civil trial and appellate litigation, with a focus on asbestos defense litigation and medical malpractice defense litigation. He also counsels clients in real estate contract litigation. Prior to joining Moran Reeves & Conn in 2016, Matthias worked as an associate for a large law firm in Richmond, where he performed a variety of legal work for healthcare providers and companies including regulatory compliance, fraud and abuse prevention, transactional work, defense litigation, and appellate practice.

Matthias graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2013, where he served as a staff writer for the law review. He was active in moot court competitions, placing as a finalist in the 2012 John W. Davis Appellate Advocacy Competition and a runner-up in the 2012 Representation in Mediation Competition. Matthias represented Washington and Lee at the American Bar Association’s 2012-2013 National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC), placing fourth nationally as an individual advocate. His team won the regional NAAC competition and made it to the semifinals of the national round.

Outside of work, Matthias remains active with moot court, judging several local and national moot court competitions. Matthias is also an ardent music fan who enjoys everything from folk-rock shows at the National to jazz concerts with VCU’s music program to classical music, and serves as a member of the Richmond Symphony’s Under 35 Advisory Group. He is also an avid runner and Ultimate Frisbee player.
