Dennis J. Whelan, III

Dennis is a trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience working in key industries including transportation, insurance, and manufacturing. With years of proven experience, Dennis provides his clients confident and solution-focused advice. He is a member of our Transportation, Trucking & Logistics team.

Dennis began his legal career as a prosecutor in San Diego, California. He has tried dozens of jury trials to verdict representing both plaintiffs and defendants and resolved hundreds of cases through non-jury trials, mediation, arbitration, and settlement. Dennis focuses on complex civil litigation, including product liability, personal injury, personal injury cases involving rideshare companies, and motor carriers.

He is recognized for efficiently managing litigation risks and represents clients in cases involving serious personal injuries, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and complex business litigation. Dennis has twice represented clients before the Virginia Supreme Court on matters involving the scope of intentional infliction of emotional distress claims, and the enforceability of restrictive covenants in employment contracts. He also has experience litigating qui tam whistleblower cases under the federal False Claims Act, including cases alleging Medicare/Medicaid fraud and Department of Defense contract fraud.

Dennis’ broad experience includes providing counsel and representation to individuals and corporate clients regarding business formation, corporate compliance, employment agreements, software licensing, and creative risk avoidance as well as other key areas important to corporate clients.
